Cynthia Gallant-Simpson lives and paints her oils in Maine. She calls her work Once Upon a Time…Coastal New England. It depicts life along the coast and at sea in the 18th and 19th centuries in the Americana Folk/Primitive tradition taught to her by the now prominent Cape Cod Folk Artists Ralph and Martha Cahoon and Peter Hunt. Occasionally Cynthia paints an actual place, however generally her work expresses the spirit of the period rather than an actual historical location or ship.
