Frank Handlen (b 1916-2023)
Born September 27, 1916 in Caldwell, New Jersey, he lived and painted in Biddeford Pool, Maine from 1940-1970. Since that time, Frank has lived and continues to paint in Kennebunkport, Maine. He continued to maintain the boat, moored as it was just outside his home, deep into his 90’s. He passed away at 106 ( May 2023).
Frank is known for Marines and Landscapes in oil and pastels, also for his sculpture. He created the heroic bronze statue on the Village Green in Kennebunkport called “Our Forebears of the Coast”. During his painting career, which now stretches over 80 years, he is widely collected and deeply respected.
